Nkulumane Constituency Member of Parliament, Desire Moyo has urged the government and fellow MPs to prioritize peace building initiatives in their respective jurisdictions.
This call to action follows the launch of ZIMRights’ “The Broken Calabash: State of Peace Report Zimbabwe, 2023-2024” in Bulawayo last week.
“The Broken Calabash report highlights Zimbabwe’s journey towards peace, and it’s crucial that we strengthen peace initiatives through active participation from all stakeholders, including the government and MPs,” Moyo said in an exclusive interview with Community Podium.
ZIMRights launched its third edition of the State of Peace report for 2023-2024, titled “The Broken Calabash,” aiming to create a brighter and more peaceful future for Zimbabwe. The report highlights the need for collective action and community engagement in promoting peaceful resolutions, dialogue, and inclusivity.
More so, guided by ZimRights’ Shifting Power to the People Strategy (SP2P), which places citizens at the forefront of formulating and implementing solutions to the challenges they face, the report uncovers the reforms needed by citizens to guarantee their personal security and foster sustainable peace in Zimbabwe.
Drawing from the key demands articulated in the People’s Human Rights Manifesto, citizens outlined five urgent measures to address and reduce threats to peace in Zimbabwe. These include strengthening law enforcement and justice systems, improving socio-economic conditions, reforming political institutions and processes, enhancing transparency and combating corruption, and promoting community dialogue and reconcilliation.
ZIMRights’ launch of “The Broken Calabash” report coincides with the International Day of Peace, serving as a moment for reflection, understanding, and collective action towards creating a peaceful Zimbabwe.
