Honourable Desire Moyo, an educator since 2002, left the teaching profession in 2008 to fully dedicate himself to arts and community development in Nkulumane. He founded Victory Siyanqoba Trust, a community-based theatre arts non-governmental organization, where he serves as the Founding Executive Director, employing over 20 talented youths and five university interns annually.
At the core of all his work is a foundational philosophy of building a communicative and participatory community.
Hon. Moyo is driven by the belief that meaningful change happens when communities actively engage in dialogue and decision-making processes. His professional focus centers on promoting human rights and freedoms at the grassroots level through creative advocacy, with a specific emphasis on empowering marginalized groups in Matabeleland, Zimbabwe.
He has spearheaded various initiatives that focus on youth and women’s empowerment, gender equity, human rights advocacy, good governance, sexual reproductive health rights, and poverty reduction. These initiatives use edutainment and infotainment to foster engagement and participation in communities. His expertise extends to cross-cultural communication, research, peace-building, and collective community development.
Through his leadership in Victory Siyanqoba Trust, Nkulumane Youth Parliament, and other citizen engagement projects, Hon. Moyo continues to advocate for human rights and freedoms, using theatre as a platform for community participation and development. Additionally, he is a performance poet who has used his art to promote democratic principles and the rights of marginalized populations both locally and internationally.
